Global Ethylene capacity is poised to see considerable growth over the next five years, potentially increasing from 201.32 mtpa in 2020 to 299.42 mtpa in 2025, registering total growth of 49%.
GlobalData’s latest report, ‘Global Ethylene Industry Outlook to 2025 – Capacity and Capital Expenditure Forecasts with Details of All Active and Planned Plants states that around 146 planned and announced plants are slated to come online primarily in Asia and Middle East.
Within Asia, China has 35 planned and announced chlorine capacity, with a total capacity of about 31.25 mtpa by 2025. The country is expected to spend a capital expenditure (capex) of US$17.59 billion. Major capacity additions will be from, Shandong Yulong Petrochemical Longkou Ethylene Plant 1.
In Middle East, Iran has 12 planned and announced projects, with the capacity additions of about 9.99 mtpa by 2025. The country is expected to spend a total of US$6.12 billion by 2025. Major Capacity additions will be from Sepehr Makran Chabahar Ethylene Plant.
In North America, US has ten planned and announced projects with the capacity additions of about 9.67 mtpa by 2025. The country is expected to spend a total of US$4.62 billion by 2025. Major capacity additions will be from Chevron Philips Chemical Qatar Petroleum Jv Orange Ethylene Plant. China Petrochemical Corp, Exxon Mobil Corp and Saudi Arabian Oil Co will be the top three companies globally in terms of planned and announced capacity additions over the upcoming years.
